June 23rd - Few weeks

June 23, 2015
Greetings all!!!  Been a few weeks since I've posted something on here.  Not sure how that's happened.  First off, want to wish my mom a Happy Birthday!

So a few weeks ago, went exploring up to Heidelburg.  Very interesting town on the Rhine river.  Also had a majestic castle ruin there.  Can you guess the name?  OK, this is going to sound incredible but the name is Heidlburg Castle.  Got some very cool pictures of it along with many of the bridge, the town and surrounding areas.  Also went to Auerbach Castle ruin and explored it.  While not nearly as impressive as Heidelburg, it was pretty neat to see. Especially driving up the mountain to get to it.  Saw it from the side of the road and off I went.  Very cool.  Some more neat pics too.

A couple of weeks ago, made a return trip to Europa Park.  It was pretty crowded but still managed to get on some of the good rides.  I really do like that place because I see a lot of effort put into most of the themeing.  While not nearly as good as Disney, it certainly has some very nice traits of its own.

That same weekend, also made my way to Strausburg, France.  It's a town right on the German - France border. Not the smallest town or the biggest but it had some neat places to it.  Walked, or rather hiked up about 100 meters to the top of a famous church.  You can tell the city has been under different country control due to some of the architecture.  Some some German persuasion and also French.

This past weekend I made it to Nuremburg.  This city is known for being the Nazi party rallying point.  It was also where the Nazi's declared the Jews as being inferior to them and then after the war, had the war crime trials held here.  I went to the Zeppelin field where Hitler spoke to his troops and reviewed them as they paraded by.  I stood on the platform where he did and looked out over the parade grounds.  It is massive.  So much that each year they close it down and have a massive grand prix race with motorcycles.  I was able to walk the grounds and get some interesting pictures.  Afterwards, went to the information and museum.  Took a tour and discovered the atrocities that were committed during the Nazi party rule.  It was very somber and depressing.

So it has been a busy time and work is kicking it up too but more places to be explored.  I'm out and about all the time and all over the place.  Got some fun plans coming up but I'll wait to reveal that later.

But, until then...

June 6th - More castles

June 7, 2015
I really do love the castle exploring out here.  I see them on the side of the Autobahn when I'm driving and decide to pull off and go check them out.  To me, that's fun and exciting, especially when I read up on the history of these places.

The first one was actually planned.  I drove to Heidelberg and visited the famous Heidelberg Castle.  It sits about halfway up a mountain and the walk to get there is intense.  You walk up an incline of about 35 degrees for almost a mile.  By the time you ...

June 1st - Another month down

June 1, 2015
Here we are in June now.  Wow!  Where is the year going?  Seems like it just started but here we are.

I've been gone a month and a half now and not sure how long I'll be gone but I'm looking at things with a positive outlook.  Getting perspective positive is important.

Hope everyone has a good start to Hurricane Season.

Until then...

May 25th - Italy

May 25, 2015
What an excursion the past couple of days.  Drove south through Switzerland to get to the first stop in Italy, Lake Como.  For all my Star Wars followers on here, that's the lake where those horrible actors got married.  Otherwise, known as Anakin and Padme.  The lake itself is beautiful and surrounded by majestic mountains but there isn't a whole lot to do there. I did manage to eat an authentic Italian pizza while there and was left feeling let down.  The images though are awesome!!!

May 25th - My Furry Buddy

May 25, 2015
It's hard to imagine that you won't see somebody again when you leave.  My first instance was Nera leaving us much too soon and now comes the news of my original little buddy.  Chip came into my life back in July of 1995 and just left it May 23rd 2015.  He was just a week shy of his 20th birthday.  He was an amazing cat unlike any other I've seen or had and I know there will never be another like him.  He was special and unique.  He traveled across the country with me from San Diego to St. Pe...

May 16th - The Falls

May 19, 2015
So posting this late as the other post and weekend was dedicated to my guy.  Went to Rhine Falls or as it's known here, Rheinfell and had a very cool day hiking, exploring, riding boats and taking pictures.  This is the largest waterfall in Europe, by volume, not size, and was very impressive, especially when right next to it as it crashed down.  You could feel the water hitting below, feel the spray as it hit your face and also hear that thunder.  It was incredible.  The castle built onto th...

May 17th - Happy Birthday Z!!!

May 17, 2015
Today is a great day!!!  Today at 10:54 am, Zachary Dylan Bickford came into this world and changed my life.  He has been a constant source of love, happiness and joy for these 16 years.  I am a very proud father and I hope that in spite of me missing a few of his birthdays, he knows I am always there with him and he is always with me.

Happy 16th Birthday buddy!!!  I love you very, very much.

May 9th - Frankenstein

May 9, 2015
So woke up late today and decided to search for some castles not too far away.  Lo and behold, I found a famous one.  Frankenstein Castle was only an hour away so off I went.  Was a very interesting find to say the least.  Got some really cool pics of it and found some more history about it.  I may have to go back before I leave here and check the forest out more.  There's supposed to be some witchcraft and magnetic stones there as well as a fountain of youth.  We shall see.

After leaving Fran...

May the 4th be with you

May 4, 2015
Greetings all.  Indeed with the Star Wars kickoff as I've been in a Star Wars mood for the past few weeks.  Watched all 6 movies and have read a couple of books too.  Nice escape.

Onto the exploration.  So this weekend, another venture to the Spring Festival was had on Saturday amid cloudy skies and rain.   On Sunday, discovered a local castle ruin named Burgruine Hofen.  While it wasn't a spectacular castle ruin, it was close by and the weather made it a little difficult to thoroughly enjoy i...

April 26th - Exploration

April 26, 2015
We've now been here just about 2 weeks so I decided it was time to get my exploring on.  I had been looking for castle ruins around Stuttgart and actually found some just outside of town.  However, my GPS in my car didn't want to take me there so I found some more in a town called Baden Baden.  I  have to say, this town was beautiful and so much fun to explore.  There was a river going down the middle of town and it was as calm as could be.  Pedestrian only traffic in the shopping districts. ...
