On May 8th 1979, I remember waking up and the roads were flooded and it was pouring and yet, my mother still forced us to go to school.  Little did we realize, that day would be a very long one.  We were basically stuck at school for many extra hours because the city was shut down due to extensive flooding and when my brother and my names were called, after we had been sitting in the cafeteria for hours, our father walked in to take us home.  We ended up walking, or pretty much swimming, the few miles from school to our house, which was still underwater.  It made for a very interesting day and needless to say, a day which still is imprinted in my memory.
